We’re wrapping up the month of October and what a month it’s been! I’ve shot not one, not two, but three different Halloween looks this month in between all of the amazing fall sessions you’ll get to see starting next week. So far, I’ve chased Harley Quinn in downtown Chicago, and watched an undead couple get married. This time, I watched a vampire roam around just as the sun has fallen. She seemed to have been searching for her mate or her sire. Now, now. This has nothing to do with my recent obsession with Buffy The Vampire slayer, but I’m warning you… This blog has some overload of fan girling. So get ready for the vampire Halloween photoshoot of the year featuring the lovely Mandy!
It Aint Easy!
Becoming a vampire isn’t as easy as you think! You can’t just walk out, find a sexy vampire named Spike and get bitten. It takes work, finesse, and a bit of denture glue. (I had to sneak at least one BTVS reference in there.) Mandy came through and got her makeup done by the lovely MUAYV. During this time, we bonded, sang Rent together, and topped it all off by expressing a mutual love for Chip Skylark. *sings Icky Vicky* I told you there’d be fan girling! I was literally SOBBING when we started started singing “Take Me Or Leave Me” together. The fastest way for a client to get into my heart is through a series of RENT montages. Yesenia did an amazing job turning Mandy from her normal peppy self into this un-dead vampire woman and I’m more than excited that I got to photograph her face half in makeup and half outside of make up.
We spent the next twenty-five minutes trying to get her Party City fangs in and they just wouldn’t fit. Here she was all dressed up, makeup done and no fangs. So, we took a trip to Walmart and searched for a solution. Fun Fact: Denture glue is a god send. It sounds nasty, it tastes awful, but it got the job done! So we ended up sticking the vampire fangs to her teeth, and they STILL DIDNT STAY in. I mean, they stayed in long enough for us to get a few shots in.
Another fun fact: Not only did Mandy walk through Walmart as a vampire, but she sang a duet with me too. You could only imagine the faces of the people around us as we walked past them, her singing about how she was going to get married and asking if anyone had seen her teeth. It was Hilarious!
Our shoot begins in the midst of the sun falling. Mandy, our bride has awakened and is now discovering her own identity for the first time. It scares her, intrigues her and beckons for her to lurk around her new world with uncertainty and fear.
She remembers where she was before her life took this toll. She was under the gazebo waiting for her prince to come and make her his.. Then she died? No, that can’t be right. Who would Joe marry if he didn’t marry her? She would die before she let anyone else marry her love. She’d die first.
Was it reality? Was she dead? Was she going to have to face… the harsh reality of being alone and soulless for eternity?
Until dawn, she remained, but when she rose again… She was a new being. Something powerful, unspeakable dark blood flowing through her veins… She was alive.
Behind The Scenes of The Vampire Halloween Photoshoot!
Fun Fact: We didn’t plan for this Gazebo portion of the shoot at all. We were wrapping the full shoot when suddenly, the lights came on. Were in awe, and there was no way I was letting them leave without getting the shot which is actually great because we fell in love with the lighting!
The photo diary of the madness that took place behind the camera (well, technically.) You guys need to see more of Amanda and her awesome cosplaying, modeling, and other whatnots on Instagram. (Don’t worry, no models were actually married in the process of this photo shoot, but she was pretty damn close.) This was probably one of the most creative and fun shoots I’ve done all year and I couldn’t be thankful enough to her and Yesenia for being a part of it and ALL of you for checking it out! Now, tell me how you spent your Halloween!
