I’d be crazy not to start this Fan Friday off by giving a tremendous thank you to Trish and “Trish’s Hoods!, who I’m going to talk about in a second but I must say… Amazing soul! Then, happy Friday to you! Find out what I fell in love with this week!
Childish Gambino has a new Mixtape Out!
If you haven’t heard by now, which.. Come on.. STN MNTN is amazing! I first heard of it by one of my guys shooting me a Facebook message with a direct Datpiff link telling me it was free. He sent me Kaiui too which is the other side of CG’s mixtape which was supposed to be a secret but I mean, who’s really mad?! If you haven’t really heard of Childish before, don’t worry. When I first saw him, I didn’t know he and Donald Glover were the same person either. Yet, I’m telling you.. Don’t let this be your last time. You’ve probably heard 3005 and Heartbeat but my God, if you don’t go back and get Culdesac or even just his EP, you’re missing out. (Get Culdesac, it’s free.)
I’ve Heard of Donald, Tell me What You think of STN MNTN
Okay. I’m not gonna lie.. The first time I heard the new mixtape, I had mixed emotions. I liked the beat, but the album reminded me a lot of Royalty which is my least favorite Childish Gambino mixtape. /Kanyeshrug. You’re not a bad fan just because you aren’t a fan of one mixtape. I mean, there are some real gems on Royalty, but overall I couldn’t relate to it. The same vibe came when I started listening to STN MNTN. I mean, I’ve listened to everything Donald’s put out faithfully and related to it all religiously. That didn’t happen with the new mixtape *incredulous staring*
The thing was for me… I didn’t really hear it. I got on the bus… Could hear background noises of people screaming, talking, laughing… There was no vibe to bob to. Except that Usher track (e i g h t) . There was nothing to it, it was flawless. Even the initial dialogue at the beginning sparked a giggle out of me. Sooner or later, I got off that bus. I took a walk home and heard a track on shuffle. It was about a dream Donald had about Atlanta. Then, that’s when I realized it… This album isn’t about me. It isn’t about my struggles, and my insecurities or my inability to smooth talk like Culdesac was. It was about Atlanta. STN MNTN… Stone Mountain. “Strippers would get mother’s day off, and I’d have my own Gangsta Grillz Mixtape.”
With fresh ears and a new perspective, I listened… I listened to each experimental sounding beat (That riff in Fucks Given) and the overall flow of the album. I’m just going to be honest with you guys.. It split my brain. Turn everything off and really listen to this album. It’s got this crazy flow, the metaphors of Gambino are still there, and there aren’t a crazy amount of features (like on Royalty) but the ones that were there were dope. It didn’t even disappointed. It actually felt like a B-Side of Because the Internet that told a hometown story. No emotions, just hard beats and real talk. There’s no old donald/new donald concept in my brain. It’s just different in a good way. Variety on my playlists is great and it’s even greater when it’s done by one artist and done well.
And.. I may have actually teared up when he revisited Love Is Crazy with that fresh, raw voice. (k a u i – s i x)
All in all. I’m a fan of it. I’ve been playing it all week like when Because The Internet first came out and I couldn’t stop listening to Life Is The biggest Troll. That Usher Track Though.
And My Second Favorite Thing This Friday
Trish’s Hoods and the woman herself! Let me say, that I was in no way paid or endorsed by Trish to talk about this hood I received. This is genuine adoration. Trish’s Hoods is located in Canada by the way. That matters because she sent this hood all the way from Canada and I’m in love. Trish herself has always been one of those girls I’ve looked up to and slightly been a fan of, not only because she’s talented but also because she’s gorgeous!
When she sent me the lovely hood in the mail, I just about died. All the way from Canada and it fit so snug and perfectly over my head. Not to mention, there are so many options of what you can wear it with. Casual, dark, rain. It’s handmade by the lovely Trish and it’s absolutely amazing. Confession time: I left my house for like a week.. And the hood wasn’t with me, and I had like this total breakdown because I thought I had lost it. In a short bit of time, I have become so attached to it, it’s become a part of my daily wear and when I returned home there it was on the banister. There’s something ridiculously sentimental about having something handmade sent to you all the way from another country. It’s gorgeous and even more than that, it’s special.
Want to see more of this amazing hood? That’s cool because in my next ClaustroClothic, I’m gonna tell you all about it AND her! So, get excited and lock up your wallets because if you don’t, you’ll be purchasing ALL her awesome hoods from her Facebook page! (On second thoughts, get your wallets ready!)
Also, follow Trish on Instagram to see her gorgeous face! You’ll totally see why I’m fanning out!
Well! Later days!
