ClaustroClothic Outfit #50: “RockaHippy”

This summer, I made myself a fashion vow to get out of the usual darkness of my closet. 85% of my clothes are black. 10% of them are either red or white. 5% of them are any other color. My goal for this summer was to expand my color pallet, try some new more experimental things and for the love of God, take more photos of my outfits! Today’s outfit really borders that thin line between different and well… Lady Gaga., but I kinda like it… Okay not kinda. I really like it! It’s fun and funky and I’m sharing it with you.

ClaustroClothic Outfit #50: Rock-A-Hippy

What inspired this outfit?

Honestly, this one kind of put itself together. I was having a rough morning and I said I wanted to try my hand at making one of those cute floral crowns I saw on Google. I wanted it in black really bad but after venturing to the closest fake flower having store, I learned that that wasn’t an option. (Which is great because my first try at floral crowns turned out to be awful! The next thing you know, I was in the store right beside that one looking at dresses because I’ve been on this “I want a maxi dress kick” ever since I saw a girl with a really great big afro rocking one outside my school. Alas, nothing but I did find the last dress that screamed vintage… amazing… color. It was a size too big but all that did was make me go home, cut it up and sew it back together so it fit snugly.

How I felt the first time I put it on.

Well, honestly, the first time… I wasn’t a fan. It may have been the flower “crown” that turned into this strange headpiece. Then, I put it on a second time because I knew I liked it. The second time around it was more classy, more calm, and less “Lady gaga”.

What’s the best part of this outfit?

Oh, that’s a tough one. I embellished both the shirt itself and the dress with studs which really excited me. This color palette is far from my norm and I was definitely afraid that it wouldn’t be “me”, but after studding and switching the flower crown out for a bandanna I felt more comfortable. So to me, the best part is making it me.

What was the most expensive piece of the outfit, where did it come from, and how much was it?

The most expensive part of it, was probably the pink dress itself. I got it from Citi Trends and it was about $13. You would’ve thought it would’ve been the purple cincher, being that it was a Lip Service project, but noooo.  I bought that from Ebay about two years ago, and it was only $4 because I’d won it in an auction.

What Kind Of Advice Can I Give To Anyone Trying To Achieve This Look Or Something Similar.

Don’t overdo it! I think the hardest part of this outfit was figuring out what moment when I had to say enough is enough. Give it a little experimentation but if it gets to be too wild, don’t be afraid to ease up a little. I went from this crazy large headpiece to a small, bandanna.
