Mini Session Monday: Queen Of Hearts – Nina

I know, I know! Halloween is over but I couldn’t resist showing you off this amazing Queen Of Hearts look collaborated by Chicago model Nina and makeup artist Gabbie Johnson. Both Queens are amazingly talented and I feel like you’d be missing out if you weren’t given the opportunity to see what they cooked up this Halloween!

I couldn’t stand the person inside me,
I turned all the mirrors around..

I‘m bigger than my body.
I’m colder than this home.
I’m meaner than my demons,
I’m bigger than these bones.

And the kids cried out;
“Please stop you’re scaring me.”
I can’t help this awful energy.
Goddamn right, you should be scared of me.
Who is in control?

Mini Session Monday – Florida Model Reiko

You’ve seen Florida model Reiko here on the blog before. Just recently, she modeled some of Shop Kinky Girly’s designs in a dark photoshoot that blew my mind. You can check that out here, and if you’ve seen it already… Get ready to see Reiko again.. but in a whole new light wearing Manaka Handmade originals.  It’s time for a Mini Session Monday featuring the lovely Florida Model Reiko.

Mini Session Monday:
Manaka Handmade // Florida Model Reiko

Prior to meeting Reiko, a Florida model I’ve known for over 10 years… I didn’t know too many people who had a style like hers. Sometimes it’s dark, sometimes it’s pinup, and sometimes it’s a surprise just waiting to unfold.

I asked Reiko what inspired her as a model. At the time, we were discussing her direction of how to branch out from other models in her area. She mentioned Manaka, and how much the handmade designer inspired her. She revealed that she was holding in her hands a few of the gorgeous pieces and that she wanted to do a photoshoot rocking them. How could I say no?

Did you enjoy this mini session with Reiko?

I don’t get to Florida much, but Reiko is model available for booking and willing to travel. You can follow her Instagram to see more of her shoots, check out her Facebook page to get future updates or subscribe to JDcom for more shoots released featuring the gorgeous Florida model.

Mini Session Monday >> AguilaOfficial

It’s early November and we’re both wearing pea coats. I hug mine tightly against me as the harsh Chicago winds press against my face. After spending an hour in New Wave Cafe talking about diversity, music, and social injustice… I’m standing outside with AguilaOfficial. His music, he explains as he pulls out a cigarette– his eyes meeting mine– is heavily inspired by his transition from NY to Chicago. It’s cold, I’m impressed and I don’t wait for him to pose. Lazaro-5

I’m deeply impressed by small details. Something as small as the way a jawline flexes as a man inhales his first cigarette of the pack is no different. People seem to create their own aesthetic so easily. For Lazaro, a lot of who he is and where he was from encompassed a lot of who he is. Living a high pace lifestyle and creating such a colorful bit of music, he channeled every bit of that into the small frames of what we shot. Not a single moment was staged. Lazaro-7 Lazaro-6

Lazaro never stood still. Not even for five minutes. It wasn’t that he was camera shy or uncertain. It was simply the artist in him, thriving. The world around him was a mass of vibrant lights and seas of people… He seemed not concerned with any small bit of that but every piece of it as a whole.
