ClaustroClothic #32: Back To School Alternative Fashion

Looking back, I started the fashion portion of this blog back in what would’ve been considered my freshman year of college. I wanted so desperately document how my alternative fashion would be affected by going to college and starting a business. I didn’t think that three years later, I’d be photographing women slaying so many fashion looks, working with designers, etc. Today, I celebrate by doing yet another back to school look.

Flashback to one of my older ClaustroClothic looks.

ClaustroClothic #32: Back To School // Alternative Fashion

Back in September of 2014, I let you know that my back to school looks have never been modest. Stepping out, I always wanted to let my classmates know that I was eclectic and that it’s probably in their best mind to get used to having that 90s goth girl aesthetic in their classroom. It’s also worth noting that my freshman year of high school was spent at an all girl’s catholic school, so I was no stranger to plaid skirts.

Now, present-day, I’ve ditched the plaid skirt and went for a more grown up look.  The plaid is still in there but it’s topped off with a Deviant Harness from SKG Designs and a Fiona Leather collar all underneath my new favorite red leather jacket from Forever 21. Honestly, it’s very seldom I’m trying to do something major with alternative fashion and can’t find some SKG to throw in there.

What Inspired this outfit?

I’ve actually been trying to find a way style that Fiona red leather ever since I saw it on my girl V during a shoot!

Mine

I’m also rocking the Dita bottoms because I was definitely not trying to hunt down a pair of stockings. It’s still kinda warm here in Chicago so I felt like I had the chance to show a little leg.

You can’t see them, but I topped the entire look off with an updated pair of boots from my last Back to School look. The ones I have now leave room for thigh high socks which keep my feet warm!

What advice can I give to anyone trying to achieve this look?

Don’t be afraid to be bold! I hear so many women say “I wish I could dress like that but–” There is no but. There’s a time and a place for every single look you can serve. Find an environment to rock your edginess. We only have one life and I don’t wanna spend it looking at clothes on a rack saying “I wish I had the confidence for this.” I’ve sewn clothes down, changed things around, bought things and worked out until I had the body I wanted to wear them… Fashion is a passion. It’s a state of mind. It’s something that calls to you and you deserve to wear it the way you know how! Like I said, there’s a time and a place. Though I wouldn’t have worn this my freshman year of college, I’ll definitely rock this outfit to a party now!

Till next time, what are you wearing?

ClaustroClothic #33: Michaela Pratt – Alternative Fashion

I love doing alternative fashion looks that are inspired renditions of people I’ve looked up to the in the fictional universe. Aside from doing warrior looks and outfits based off 80s hair metal bands, I love getting inspired by fictional characters. One of my favorite characters of the now is Michael Pratt from the show How to Get Away With Murder. Michael is played by the gorgeous Aja Naomi King and god does that character have fire! So today. I pulled together a look based off that character with a little help from an amazing look one of our newest models Laura pulled off.

ClaustroClothic #33: Michael Pratt

Besides Michaela, What Inspired this Outfit?

When I became a business owner, my biggest fear was compromising who I was. I wanted to keep my crazy style and colorful hair so a lot of times, I was finding different ways to stay myself but not to overshadow my business attire. My goal is always to come off edgy yet approachable.

How did this outfit get pieced together?

Like most outfits I pull together, I started with a color palette, of course it was red and black. I really wanted an excuse to wear my Poison Ivy wig outside of my cosplay so I started with that. From there, I added the parasol, dress, shoes and eventually the corset. As a kid, I always wanted a parasol. I felt like you weren’t cool unless you had one. (Laura, our newest model is extremely cool)

The hardest part was making the Michaela look more alternative. Sure, you could pull on a dress and some wingtip heels and say, “I made the look edgy,” but what really gave it the click? The corset has these bows on the side that become like “coat tails” when you stretch them out. I suddenly felt like I had a little more a burlesque feel to this look.

What’s the best part of this outfit?

Definitely the versatility of bringing that parasol in. I don’t typically utilize a lot of accessories. Maybe a purse here, and a some jewelry there but this felt new to me. I felt confident carrying it.

What do you think?

Did I pull off a decent Michaela look?

Do you think I could get away with murder?

Hell, do you own a Parasol? Comment and let me know! Also, follow me on Instagram for more looks!

Lookbook: SKG Designs

V is actually rocking a Dollskill dress underneath a fully adjustable Tempest Harness from SKG Designs. Around her neck is a Leona collar  thus completing a sort of pastel goth look that almost contrasts the colorful babydoll dress she’s rocking. Sometimes it’s not just about the dress but the accessories framing the overall aesthetic.

To top it all off, V brought a little extra edge to the look by putting her glasses on. She’s got some unique frames and it really brought a different vibe to the look.

WARRIOR GRRL | SKG Designs

I know, I know. I just posted about SKG Designs this week, with my Punk Storm shoot but the new collection just dropped and I’m excited! This doubles as a ClaustroClothic, let’s call it 33.5 because I’ve got another look coming that will be the other .5 of that 33, but that’s not what we’re here for! We’re here to celebrate that this Isabel skirt I’m rocking in this shoot made the WARRIOR collection SKG Designs dropped today!

Fun fact: This photoshoot is a part of the warrior series. Read about the group warrior origin, and the special CC outtake.

The corridor is dark as my shoes step lightly, and my skirt swishes in the wind. I never dreamt that long after the apocalypse, long after our group has divided, reproduced and keep in touch in the new world order that we found that I would be once again ready and preparing for any sort of war. Many of my friends have asked, “Why did you fight? Why are you always prepared for battle?” My answer was simple.

There’s always a war to be fought.
I don’t stand for myself.
I stand for those who cannot fight.

There’s a rustle. In the midst of my self reflection, I forgot about the dangers lurking around me. Luckily, I’m always ready for war…

Even when I’m not fighting, I’m resting and waiting…

You  never know when darkness is about to strike…

The new Warrior Line from SKG just dropped about an hour ago and you can use the code ‘JasemineDenise’ to get yourself a discount. Just in case you have no clue what to get, I’ll give you the play by play of what I’m wearing in this photoshoot. Especially since, it’s technically a ClaustroClothic.

The Isabel Skirt .

Honestly, I have a totally separate blog coming because it’s so easy to make looks with this skirt. The material of it seriously just flows and I vibe with it so much!

Last but not Least, What Inspired this Outfit:

Harley Quinn Suicide Squad heels

I was like a year late to the Suicide Squad and I skipped straight to the extended edition. Aside from jumping on the band wagon of being probably one of 7 people in the country who didn’t fully hate Jared Leto’s performance, I could not get my eye of Harley’s shoes! So much so that I bought them from Amazon and that’s what prompted me to put this look together. I wanted something unique from my last Warrior outfit which was much more Tank Girl inspired.

That’s it!
