ClaustroClothic #30: The Echelon Girl

If you haven’t noticed from ClaustroClothics pastI’m a huge fan of things. When I like something, I love it. I will rep it on my back. I will wear it. Hell, I may even tattoo it. My descent into the Echelon was quick and virtually painless. My first Thirty Seconds To Mars song was Hurricane, but the one that changed my life had to have been Alibi. The band itself is amazing. Shannon Leto? Gorgeous. But the fandom… The fandom is what sold me. This ClaustroClothic #30 is inspired by the Echelon, yes… The Thirty Seconds To Mars fanbase.

ClaustroClothic #30: The Echelon
Thirty Seconds To Mars Inspired Outfit.

I’m not typically a jeans and t-shirt type of gal. Hell, I think I own maybe two pair of jeans and they both have holes in them. This particular pair I’m rocking in this session was given to me by Cosplay Sass, and while I’m not exactly sure why… I fell in love with them.

What inspired this outfit?

I’m in love with this damn shirt. When I first laid eyes on it, it was before I got my hair done by Weave N Luxury over in Ohio. I mean, my natural hair was red and black but it wasn’t the same color as the damn shirt. When I got into the Echelon, I fell in love with the family in the fandom. Anytime something hits home like that for me, I’ve gotta get some merch. My think is that band shirts are like smoke signals. You’re out in public and you’re walking around… Suddenly, someone far away spots that Triad and now you’ve got a friend in the fandom. The same applies to the internet. Honestly, if anyone stops me on the street and goes “Hey, are you a Thirty Seconds To Mars fan?” I’m gonna stop.. I’m gonna talk to them. I’m gonna ask them which track is their favorite… I’m probably gonna take them out for dinner.

What’s the best part of this outfit?

I’m a sucker for color coordination. Everything in this entire outfit just screams me. You almost can’t miss me walking down the street. I also love that even though the outfit is kinda “dressed down”, it screams, “Hey… I’m here.” How many people do you know are walking around with so much of two colors on their body just to go to the grocery store. (Though, I’m pretty sure I went somewhere else in this outfit. Can’t remember. Maybe coffee.)

The Outfit Breakdown // The Details

The Snapback

The first thing I ever bought from the Mars Store being very very new to The Echelon was this hat. Make America Rock Again. I felt like it made a huge statement and while I’m sure I could’ve found it anywhere else, a band who really made every damn music video/track a huge event seemed like a fitting. I think the one thing I was petrified about was obviously it’s a joke about Donald Trump’s “make America great again.” The first time I wore it, people kept staring at me funny. Eventually I started going “read it again.”

The Collar // SKG Designs

The Fiona collar again?! Hell yes, you may recognize this one from my updated back to school look, but it just goes with my leather jacket perfectly. I’m secretly dying to learn how many ways I can put SKG Designs gear into different looks. I can already hear all of you in my head going “Pfft. Like that’s anything new.” but seriously, it was really hard to build a casual look without throwing in a harness or a leg garter. This was just so casual… Then I looked at the collar and went… “There’s never a day where I can’t rock a little SKG.”

The Hair // Weave N Luxury

I promise this was a coincidence! I had an appointment with the amazing hair scientist and boss babe, Rayshone months before I ordered this shirt. The woman is a wizard with the hair and yes, before you even ask.. This is a custom wig order. She does take long distance orders so you should’ve even hesitate!

That’s it… But I can’t leave this blog post without an open letter to the Echelon.

Dear Echelon Family.

I’m proud to wear this fandom on my back. When I first got into Thirty Seconds To Mars, I never dreamt of the type of family I’d find backing a band. If Alibi changed my life and Artifact altered it, you Queens saved it. I have never felt so accepted by a group of talented, amazing, creative people. Thirty Seconds To Mars spoke to me the way Guns N’ Roses did. The pain and agony behind the business model that was that band is my drive and inspiration. Duff McKagan literally wrote a book that changed my life.  Our bond goes beyond (Dare I say it) the bond I had with the Eminem fandom, and that’s where I got my start on Tumblr. That was my first tattoo too.  Growing up with a mental illness, becoming deeply engrossed in things was how I learned to cope with everything that was going on around me. I wrote my first fan fiction with my cousin when I was about 9 years old in a broken home to nothing but music to be our guides. I never dreamt all those years ago that I’d find a group of people who would be reading my writing and getting to know me because of it and through it. I carry this fandom with me not because I feel like I have to but because I want to. God, I want to see each and every one of you succeed because the music taught us to. Jared, Shannon and Tomo motivated us to. Because it’s your destiny to fight and to keep fighting because that’s the type of warriors you were all built to be. I’m honored to be a part The Echelon, the fandom for a band that became a family for me.

Do you have a favorite band? Are you a part of a fandom?

ClaustroClothic #31: Halloween Fashion

It’s October! Can you believe it’s still in the sixties here? I’m trying to whip out all my Halloween fashion looks, including this one in my new fur bomber jacket gifted to me by Keeley and Megan, but… Well goodness, it’s still freaking toasty outside! It didn’t stop me though. I had to serve this look.

ClaustroClothic #31: Halloween Fashion

Everyday is Halloween

I’ve only had a handful of Halloween costumes my whole life. I think that contributes a lot to the style I have. I was Tickle Me Elmo in Kindergarten, complete with a vibrating one piece suit that didn’t run out of batteries. I think I was Esmerelda one year too. By the time I hit my senior year, my entire aesthetic was Halloween fashion. People would walk past me and say “It aint Halloween yet, girl!” and I’d scoff and say “Everyday is Halloween!”

Speaking of Halloween, let’s talk about this headpiece.

Kalika, a model you’ve seen on my Instagram a thousand times, and will see again in just a few weeks is a woman of many talents. She’s a model, she’s a spooky movie enthusiast, and she’s just an all around creative gal.

She made this crown.

Look at the diamond eyes. LOOK AT THE EYES!!! I couldn’t have formed something this creative if my life depended on it, but let’s be honest… I’d probably hot glue my hand to my face by accident if I tried. In case you didn’t know, it takes me forever to craft things.

Underneath that is a ton of my favorite SKG Gear.

I wear my Jasemine harnesses everywhere. Yes, I have two of them, and yes. They are named after me. That’s not bragging. It’s literally the biggest honor ever bestowed upon me because SKG’s leather line… Ugh. HEART EYE. Remember that you can get a discount on your SKG orders anytime by using my code JasemineDenise.

The one I’m rocking on my chest in this outfit, is a custom colored one. Half red leather, half black… because yes. SKG makes red leather options now.

I’m obviously a huge Shop Kinky Girly supporter. I love the way I can style almost every single thing I own with anything. It always seems like there’s an accessory for every outfit. For instance, the Lina collar… Went perfectly with this outfit. All the O rings!!

No outfit would be complete without my boss socks. I had been looking for them for ages and Ray finally found the missing one. Though they don’t exactly match the outfit, they still fit into the fur coat badass woman aesthetic so I threw them in.

Have you been waiting for October to show off your Halloween fashion?

I want to see! Comment this blog post with your favorite Halloween fashion look, your outfit of the days, or pretty much just anything that screams spooky fashion. I love checking out other outfits!

ClaustroClothic #32: Back To School Alternative Fashion

Looking back, I started the fashion portion of this blog back in what would’ve been considered my freshman year of college. I wanted so desperately document how my alternative fashion would be affected by going to college and starting a business. I didn’t think that three years later, I’d be photographing women slaying so many fashion looks, working with designers, etc. Today, I celebrate by doing yet another back to school look.

Flashback to one of my older ClaustroClothic looks.

ClaustroClothic #32: Back To School // Alternative Fashion

Back in September of 2014, I let you know that my back to school looks have never been modest. Stepping out, I always wanted to let my classmates know that I was eclectic and that it’s probably in their best mind to get used to having that 90s goth girl aesthetic in their classroom. It’s also worth noting that my freshman year of high school was spent at an all girl’s catholic school, so I was no stranger to plaid skirts.

Now, present-day, I’ve ditched the plaid skirt and went for a more grown up look.  The plaid is still in there but it’s topped off with a Deviant Harness from SKG Designs and a Fiona Leather collar all underneath my new favorite red leather jacket from Forever 21. Honestly, it’s very seldom I’m trying to do something major with alternative fashion and can’t find some SKG to throw in there.

What Inspired this outfit?

I’ve actually been trying to find a way style that Fiona red leather ever since I saw it on my girl V during a shoot!

V’s look

Mine

I’m also rocking the Dita bottoms because I was definitely not trying to hunt down a pair of stockings. It’s still kinda warm here in Chicago so I felt like I had the chance to show a little leg.

You can’t see them, but I topped the entire look off with an updated pair of boots from my last Back to School look. The ones I have now leave room for thigh high socks which keep my feet warm!

What advice can I give to anyone trying to achieve this look?

Don’t be afraid to be bold! I hear so many women say “I wish I could dress like that but–” There is no but. There’s a time and a place for every single look you can serve. Find an environment to rock your edginess. We only have one life and I don’t wanna spend it looking at clothes on a rack saying “I wish I had the confidence for this.” I’ve sewn clothes down, changed things around, bought things and worked out until I had the body I wanted to wear them… Fashion is a passion. It’s a state of mind. It’s something that calls to you and you deserve to wear it the way you know how! Like I said, there’s a time and a place. Though I wouldn’t have worn this my freshman year of college, I’ll definitely rock this outfit to a party now!

Till next time, what are you wearing?

ClaustroClothic #33: Michaela Pratt – Alternative Fashion

I love doing alternative fashion looks that are inspired renditions of people I’ve looked up to the in the fictional universe. Aside from doing warrior looks and outfits based off 80s hair metal bands, I love getting inspired by fictional characters. One of my favorite characters of the now is Michael Pratt from the show How to Get Away With Murder. Michael is played by the gorgeous Aja Naomi King and god does that character have fire! So today. I pulled together a look based off that character with a little help from an amazing look one of our newest models Laura pulled off.

ClaustroClothic #33: Michael Pratt

Besides Michaela, What Inspired this Outfit?

When I became a business owner, my biggest fear was compromising who I was. I wanted to keep my crazy style and colorful hair so a lot of times, I was finding different ways to stay myself but not to overshadow my business attire. My goal is always to come off edgy yet approachable.

How did this outfit get pieced together?

Like most outfits I pull together, I started with a color palette, of course it was red and black. I really wanted an excuse to wear my Poison Ivy wig outside of my cosplay so I started with that. From there, I added the parasol, dress, shoes and eventually the corset. As a kid, I always wanted a parasol. I felt like you weren’t cool unless you had one. (Laura, our newest model is extremely cool)

The hardest part was making the Michaela look more alternative. Sure, you could pull on a dress and some wingtip heels and say, “I made the look edgy,” but what really gave it the click? The corset has these bows on the side that become like “coat tails” when you stretch them out. I suddenly felt like I had a little more a burlesque feel to this look.

What’s the best part of this outfit?

Definitely the versatility of bringing that parasol in. I don’t typically utilize a lot of accessories. Maybe a purse here, and a some jewelry there but this felt new to me. I felt confident carrying it.

What do you think?

Did I pull off a decent Michaela look?

Do you think I could get away with murder?

Hell, do you own a Parasol? Comment and let me know! Also, follow me on Instagram for more looks!
