Lighten Up: An Intimate Letter To My Body.

Every week after I do a wash and straighten, I take some time to admire myself in the mirror. Sometimes, I take pictures of things I love and things that I hate. My hair, random pimples, what color my eyes are.. Since my hair currently is in protective styling, I had more time to embark  on that journey. Seeing as though “All About That Bass” is one of my favorite songs out right now (Yeah, that’s right. EVEN THOUGH I’m a size 0, I love that song), “Every inch of you is perfect” stuck. So I decided to speak to my body. It was liberating, intimate and I wanted to share it with all of you as well as encourage you to try as well. So here is an intimate letter to my body entitled “Every inch.”

I challenge each and everyone of you to look at your body from the eyes of your ultimate lover. Look at it like you are the one who will accept every flaw and every curve because if you don’t, who will? Send me your letters too. I’d love to fall in love with all the little imperfections of you because, let’s be honest… Every inch of you is perfect.

Every Inch.
An intimate letter to my body.Intimate Letter To My Body-3

Dear body. Every inch of you is perfect.
E
ven that stupid little hangnail on your foot that you try to hide… Which is why you don’t wear sandals.
Or the way you feel like your shoulders are too broad. Or the way you hate your hair.
Every inch of you is perfect.
Dear body, every inch of you is perfect.

Whether you’d like to admit it or not..
Those weird little birthmarks you have (like the one on your left thigh), it’s amazing.
And everyone who sees it giggles because it’s like peeking out of your skirt.
You’re  perfect.
Dear me, I know you work really hard to keep your abs in shape..
To be honest, I like it better when it’s not fully, fully out there.
I like it when it’s just poking out of your skin. Right next to that tattoo you got at eighteen when you were really scared.
Maybe it was 21. Nonetheless, You’re perfect.

Intimate Letter To My Body-5

Dear me. I know that you got a bunch of piercings because you thought.. like
That was going to make you awesome. That was going to change who you were.
That was going to make you a bad ass… In reality, you’re still just that dorky little girl with the ponytails.
But you’re perfect.
Dear body, I know that everyone says that we’re going to regret our tattoos in a couple of years..
We’re not. Every inch of you is perfect.

Intimate Letter To My Body-7

That stupid chip in your mouth… That crazy way that you can’t wear your eyeliner that everyone always compliments you for..
Your baby hairs. The way that your shoulders kinda just… Turn into wrestler neck.
Every inch of you is perfect.
And when time is over and we grow old, and our bodies get really weird and strange.
I want you to know that me, the inhabitant of this skin.. The lover of this body, the crazy person who knows it in and out from the tan lines over you, you know your boobs to the strange little divet you get at the bottom of your stomach.
Every inch of you is perfect.

I know I don’t say it enough, especially in the 23 years I’ve been on this earth but I love every inch of myself.
Body, every inch of you is perfect.

How would Your “Intimate Letter to my Body” go?

Here, I’ll help. Get yourself a cup of your favorite drink (alcoholic or non.), light a candle, play Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and really think about what would make you blush deep beneath your own skin. What would the love of your life say if they saw you naked for the very first time? What would make them smile? What would make them laugh? What little details would you want them to memorize?

Why do I ask? I ask because when it comes down to it, no matter who you fall in love with in this world, the first love of your life should be you. This Lighten up Thursday, I challenge you to fall head over heels for yourself.

And Don’t Forget to Share!

Write a haiku, a whole blog post, a Facebook wallpost to my page, I don’t care where you do it but shamelessly proclaim your love for your body! I mean, hell.. Everyone is doing it! Don’t be afraid to fall madly in love with it. Get obsessed. PROCLAIM YOUR HATRED FOR CLOTHES for the rest of your life.

Become one with love and yourself.

I challenge you.
Better yet.. I dare you.

Namaste.

Dear Jasemine, we havent been in contact for a while, which is both good and bad, god because now when we communicate we have things to talk about. I loved the person you used to be, but even more love, respect, and admire 10 times more the person you have chosen to become. I would like you to know that even to we don’t and havent talked much in the last almost 2 yrs, you are still amazing and i just wanted to show you the appreciation for who you are.
