5 Things a Photographer Is Thankful For All Year.

Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you guys are loving your holiday! My family doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving but that doesn’t mean I can’t be thankful. Let me tell you about 5 things a photographer is thankful for all year! When I’m done, feel free to tell me five things you’re thankful for! I want you to know that this list was hard because… I can’t say things like food, days off, things of that sort. I wanted this Thanksgiving post to be extremely honest.

5 Things a Photographer is Thankful For All Year

Behind The Scenes-7

# 5: A photographer is always thankful for the people they get to work with all year. That’s obvious but all the reasons why may not be. You guys are imaginative, you guys are motivating, and the look on your faces when you see the photos we’ve taken and spent so much time on are literally life changing. Sure you think you’re bothering us when you give us testimonials and rave and rant about your favorite images but I assure you that you are not. You can never bother a photographer who loves what they do. We welcome your ideas too. Photographers love, need, and encourage your imagination.

#4: Other photographers and their sense of community. God, let me start with saying that any photographer who doesn’t talk down to you and actually gives advice when you need it, THANK YOU. Bonus points if you’ve given critiques about work or even just gave a like here and there on Facebook. People won’t admit it but photographers are just as much a help to each other as any outside eye.

#3: Locations, locations, locations! I’m thankful Starbucks doesn’t kick me out during my fifteen billion year conversations with people. I’m thankful that a few venues that have a “no photography” rule have turned a blind eye to the lack of proper paperwork I’ve had standing beside very hopeful clients. (I promise to be better with that.)

#2: The equipment that have been purchased throughout the year. Can’t count how many times I’ve yelped out loud at that extra battery or the hard drive that had the backup of photos I’ve taken years ago. Something about knowing you’re not screw makes me you really chant your hail Mary’s but not even just for the obvious reasons. Being able to have something hard to store your contracts in is amazing because when it rains, you know that the waterproof box and bag are going to keep you safe.

#1: Finally, for the friends, family and significant other. As the photographer gets more focused, we’re aware of how little you may see us or how we just can’t resist showing you a billion photos! We’re the ones that make sure we have to obnoxiously drag you into 45 different pictures at your own birthday but it’s not because we hate you. It’s because we love you and you are most likely the reason we started photographing in the first place so that we can always be thankful that we were able to create and share these memories with you.

For all these reasons and more,

I’m celebrating Thanksgiving by being extremely thankful. It’s not about the overabundance of food you’re eating or who had what land first… Heck, it’s not even about being thankful. It’s about remembering what you should be thankful for every single day of your life. There are some days where I get ungrateful. (Mostly when I’m grouchy.) but I couldn’t be more happy with the fact that I get to spend everyday doing what I love for the rest of my life.  Thank you for reading but now…

What are five things you’re thankful for?
